This image is literally engraved in his mind; It scares him but also arouses his curiosity. The young man sets up a primitive hunting device, traps this child and takes him home. This poor thing, incapable of expressing his troubles, begins to develop day by day with Oskar's attention and compassion. A haunted tale of neglect and compassion, exclusion and connection, the origin of traumas, written by Matias Faldbakken, author of The Waiter and We Are Five: The Poor Thing. Faldbakken created a novel from the witch's potion... The text plays with both clichés and metaphors - and presents beauty and pain simultaneously in the form of a powerful blend, with an ironic and straightforward demeanor. ... With such language and intense impulse, the author has created a particularly enjoyable adventure. Dag og Tid The Poor Thing evokes in me feelings that I have never received from a book since Agota Kristof's Great Notebook, in which he describes pain and compassion in the same direct and original voice. You'll have to search for a long time for a more original and exciting project - except for Faldbakken's previous novel, We Five, which is equally delightful, magical and wild.
