It does not make much noise and is suitable for both freshwater and saltwater tanks. However, it is recommended that 1/2" ID tubing should be bought separately and it may not be a reliable product as several reviewers experienced malfunctions and failures. One reviewer complained that it broke down and caused corals to die after using it for less than a month, and several reviewers reported failures after just over a year.
